Revaren

The City That Implores Silence

Revaren is a city immersed in almost unceasing rain. The stone streets shine like cracked mirrors, while water slowly slips through the crevices, creating muted reflections of the gray sky above the houses. Scholars attribute this phenomenon to the meeting of the humid currents from Lake Varnis and the icy winds descending from the northern glaciers: Revaren lies exactly at the point where these two air flows collide, and a clear sky remains only a distant dream.

The city was founded centuries ago as a refuge. Groups of people from the Dominion of Aerthas, weary of war and unable to accept its madness, gathered here, far from the mountains and conflicts of their homelands. They were men and women who feared the White Dragon and hoped to live without ever being called to fight.

The architecture of Revaren reflects the values of its inhabitants: there are no walls or fortifications, because the city does not seek to defend itself with violence. Towers and tall buildings rise proudly among the narrow streets, creating plays of shadow and reflections in the puddles. The houses, built mainly of dark wood, overlook the stone streets, sometimes connected by suspended walkways, giving an impression of compact verticality, almost like a forest of human-made structures. Each district maintains its own rhythm, but everywhere one can feel the same desire to live in peace, far from the conflicts of the outside world.

To remember and appease the White Dragon, statues carved in marble or white limestone can be found in every district. The oldest, in Veltheran Square, was the work of Odran Veltheran, who claimed to have seen the Dragon and transposed its image into stone. Three days after completing the sculpture, Odran was found lifeless at the foot of the statue, his face turned toward the gray sky. It was not a sign of terror: for the inhabitants, that vision is a lesson. The Dragon cannot be avoided, but one can hope to meet the peace. They pray that, when the time comes, the Woman in Black will guide them, and not the Dragon’s fury.

In Revaren, rain is a constant backdrop to this thought: life is fragile, war is madness, and the only true strength is to accept what will come with calm and dignity.

"Each soul finds its path. Some encounter calm, others chaos.
Death comes, but how we face it is ours to choose."
